Virtual Exhibits

Secrets of the Ice

Part of the Museum's Gordon Current Science and Technology program, this website offers hands-on opportunities to explore the science of the Antarctica expedition to collect ice cores from across the continent.

From 1999 to 2002, this site tracked the progress of an International Trans-Antarctic Scientific Expedition team working on the West Antarctic ice sheet. The ice core samples they collected reveal how humans have impacted climate changes over the past 200 years. Learn more about their research, view the expedition log books, and read the team's answers to questions sent by website visitors each season.
