Animation

Temporary Exhibit [Return to listing page]
Blue Wing, Level 1

Sunday, January 28, 2007 - Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Cartooning may seem like child's play, but in reality animators are hardly clowning around. Constructing a functional series of moving images requires an understanding of geometry, physics, and computer technology—not to mention creativity and talent. In this temporary interactive exhibit appropriate for all age groups, find out how the pros create their masterworks. Test out animation tools, develop a storyboard from a series of picture cards, draw characters, and create scenes using moving backgrounds.

While unleashing your creative genius, be sure not to miss the computerized animation software, digital cameras, and time-lapse photography—all tools of the trade—in the bedroom lab of whiz-kid Dexter, from the Cartoon Network's Dexter's Laboratory. And step through the television screen and into your favorite cartoons in the Cartoon Museum, where you can discover how storyboards, cels, and models morph into Scooby-Doo, The Powerpuff Girls, The Flintstones, and more.
