In the Dark

Temporary Exhibit [Return to listing page]

Saturday, October 01, 2011 - Sunday, January 08, 2012

Walk through a forest at night, test your survival skills in a fragile cave ecosystem, and plunge deep beneath the waves to explore the deepest ocean chasms. In this exhibit, discover how light-loving species like humans adapt to darkness.

Meander through a diorama of a forest habitat in the Great Smoky Mountains, or peer into a cross-section of a Midwestern backyard to find out what happens in the natural world after dark. Will you encounter a Barred Owl or a bevy of termites?

Make your way through a Kentucky limestone karst cave to see how some life forms exist in a world absent of light altogether. Or, examine how people have adjusted to the dark, by exploring myths and legends from different cultures that interpret night and darkness, and taking a closer look at technological adaptations we've made.

In the Dark was created by the Cincinnati Museum Center.
