Temporary Exhibits
Geckos: Tails to Toepads
On Exhibit January 21 – May 6, 2012
Enter a world of bulging eyes, night vision, sticky toepads, squawking voices, and disposable body parts. See how many camouflaged geckos you can spot, customize a gecko for different environments, and learn about cutting-edge gecko science — from the race to classify gecko diversity to unraveling the mysteries of gecko adhesion.
Created by Peeling Productions at Clyde Peeling's Reptiland.
Lost Egypt: Ancient Secrets, Modern Science
On Exhibit May 25 – September 4, 2012
Unearth the mysteries of Egypt, its culture, and its people through hands-on challenges, authentic artifacts, and guidance from real archaeologists. Featuring a real human mummy and animal mummies, as well as scans, forensic facial reconstructions, and—for the first time ever — life-size rapid prototypes, displaying the mummy in various stages of "unwrapping," Lost Egypt illuminates our understanding of the ancient past.
Developed by COSI in cooperation with the Science Museum Exhibit Collaborative and was built by the Science Museum of Minnesota. Artifacts are on loan from the Brooklyn Museum and the Academy of Natural Sciences.
Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age
On Exhibit October 7, 2012 – January 13, 2013
Delve into the Ice Age! Examine and touch large, fleshed-out creatures and skeletons, including Lyuba—a 40,000-year-old, intact baby mammoth specimen discovered by a Siberian reindeer herder and two of his sons in 2007. Also featured is some of the oldest art in existence, huge skulls and tusks, weird and wonderful mammoth relatives, and mastodon bones collected by William Clark (of Lewis and Clark) for President Thomas Jefferson's own collection.
Created by The Field Museum, Chicago.
